Welcome to the Julian Light Operatic Society website.

Julian Light Operatic - or JLOS - is based in Ealing in west London. We are essentially a Gilbert and Sullivan group and our 2011 production, Ruddigore, was the 90th production since our first, Iolanthe, in 1949. Our next, The Gondoliers will be in the Autumn of 2012. Book early!

We aim to give the local community an opportunity to experience light opera in traditional style (with a few subtle changes occasionally) to as high a standard as possible at a lower cost than the professional theatre.

Our current Director is Fraser Grant - a professional with a wide range of experience in the musical and straight theatre, both in the UK and overseas.

The Julian’s policy is to cast principal parts from within its own membership as far as possible and to give encouragement to beginners of all ages.

Some current participants are still at school, others have membership stretching back to the 1960’s.

The support and enthusiasm of its many members over the years epitomises what the Julian is all about – doing something that is enjoyable as a relaxation to a standard that others will appreciate. The Julian meets for rehearsals every Wednesday evening at Ealing Town Hall.

Our main production is usually in the autumn and there is a soiree or variety concert usually each Spring. Last year's Ruddigore was, as usual, staged at Questors Theatre, Mattock Lane, Ealing.

The Company is self-financing through members' subscriptions and fund-raising activities. It receives no money from arts organisations and therefore is indebted to individuals who support the group through its patron scheme.

If you would like to offer financial assistance either by becoming a patron or through official sponsorship please contact the Secretary (details below). New members are always welcome to join our Society, either in a performing or supporting role. If you are interested, please contact the Secretary (details below) or click here. And if you would like to be added to the society's mailing list click here
